Travel Advisory: Union Pacific "Big Boy" Steam Engine Passing Through Johnstown – Saturday, July 11

The City of Johnstown is pleased to welcome the historic Union Pacific "Big Boy" Steam Engine as it travels through the city on Saturday, July 11, with an anticipated arrival between 12:30 PM and 12:45 PM.

To ensure public safety and facilitate the movement of traffic, the Johnstown Police Department has announced the following temporary traffic restrictions:

Road Closure

Washington Street between Roosevelt Boulevard and Johns Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic beginning at 11:00 AM and will remain closed until the Big Boy has safely crossed the historic Stone Bridge.

Parking Restrictions

The following locations will have no parking permitted:

  • Dellwood Street Bridge
  • Brownstown Bridge
  • Roosevelt Boulevard
  • Any roadway where vehicles would impede traffic or create a safety hazard while viewing the locomotive

The City of Johnstown does not grant permission to park on privately owned property or parking lots. Vehicles parked without the property owner's permission may be towed at the owner's expense.

Railroad Safety

Railroad property is private property and is strictly off limits to the public. Residents and visitors are reminded to remain at least 25 feet from all railroad tracks and to obey all traffic laws, posted signage, and instructions from public safety personnel throughout the event.
